Info and fun facts about the 2017 Solar Eclipse event held at Manor College Library

Schedule of Events

The event is loosely from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Manor College Learning Commons. During this time feel free to mingle and chat.

  • Set up in the Learning Commons. Grab your supplies and instructions. Grab a snack and seat.
  • Build your viewer (see the box to the right for instructions)
  • Check out some of our resources on astronomy and mingle with friends and staff
  • View the film "Cosmos" screening in the Library Lecture Space (showing from 12-3)
  • 2.30 - 2.40PM Head outside to the eclipse!
  • Dispose of viewer in recycling bin or keep as a souvenir

Solar Snack

We encourage you to bring a "solar snack" to share. Some ideas are:

  • Sunkist sodas
  • Starbursts
  • Moon Pies
  • Milky Ways
  • Mars bars
  • SunChips
  • Capri Suns
  • Starbucks
  •  a homemade treat

Make Your Own Solar Viewer

The Library will provide you with the materials to make your own solar viewer. Unlike special glasses that allow to look up to the sky, this viewer is a more like a camera obscura that allows you to see a pinhole image of the object.
