Poetry Contest: 2017 Winners

Guidelines for the annual Poetry Contest at Manor College

The ABC's of 2017

Why is it that most poets,
Write sad poems?
Or mad poems?
Happy go lucky just doesn't flow right.
This is real life
and the first thing we learn are our ABC’s...
Appropriation and
Blasphemy. The stigma of bisexuality.
Conspiracies and college...
Debt. Drugs,
Ecstasy and
False hope.
Guns.
Hillary.
Ignorance and
Justice.
Killing.
Love and loving lust,
Molly and marijuana. Murder and millennials. Mental health and
Neighborhood nightmares.
Oppression.
Police brutality.
Questioning
Rape victims?
Skin color.
Transgender rights...lest we forget, Trump.
Unicorns!
Violence against
Women.
Xanax and extraterrestrials?
Youth.
So that is why our poems are sad,
Because we'd rather you know about the bad.
We want you mad.
We're not just singing our ABC’s,
We're giving you something to think about
Before you catch some Zzz's.

Because The Thoughts Of A Girl Counts…

I want to be obnoxiously cute,

And make everyone else puke…

I want to be held in the arms of a man who’ve stolen my heart…

I want to be treated like the ultimate queen,

Like if they was proud to have someone like me…

Like if there was nothing to be compared with that can possibly be a match to what they call my ultimate “beauty”…

To be looked at like if I was a diamond in the most rarest place…

Like if I was everything they wished for in a prayer of faith…

I want to be spoiled in every way…

Spoiled through love and affection cuz I'm not a materialistic…

Because I’m in love the most smallest things,

Thoughts and details is  everything to a girl like me…

Surprises here and there,

As well as randomness anywhere…

Because I'm the one who like that the world knows I'm his…

That he is so happy to have a found a girl like this…

A girl who likes efforts and sees the good in them,

Who can’t imagine a relationship like fairy tales that could have ever existed,

A girls who has experienced somethings but not everything

A girl full of insecurities and still keeps her cool…

A girl who doesn’t need a guy to drop everything for her,

Just needs to know that she is enough even with her deformities and to him feel so much more closer…

I like picnics and dates,

Just like I like going out for walks, even on a rainy day…

Just like I dream of being the girl the guy cries for at the alter,

When he sees me walking down that aisle knowing that there isn’t anything that could makes us any happier

All I wish to know is that they actually understand how I'm feeling…

That when they look at me, they’d know what I'm thinking

That when they hear a certain tone in my voice, they’d know how to respond…

That when they make their promises, they’s keep it…

That when I say “leave me alone”, they would not stop insisting…

That when I say “I have  my period...”,

They’d come with food and chocolate…

That doesn’t get mad over the smallest things…

That doesn’t argue unless it is truly worth it…

One that works so hard to fix any problems instead of pushing me away…

I want to be more than words can ever describe a woman…
Just wonder who this guy could be…
