First-Year Skills: Canvas and Google Suite

Productivity

Google Applications

Introduction

Canvas is the platform you use for viewing the classes you are taking, syllabi and grades, as well as to participate in class discussions, communicate with your instructors and classmates and etc. Canvas allows students to use G Suite (Docs, Slides, Sheets, Drive, etc.)  inside of Canvas without switching between tabs and having to constantly log-in. To learn more about Canvas and G Suite and familiarize yourself with some of the resources below:

Tips for Microsoft Word and Office

Browsers and Canvas

Some browsers perform better than others when accessing Canvas through the web. All work a little bit differently.

Chrome: Google Chrome is the best browser for Windows and Android devices. As Google Drive is your Canvas it's easy to go between features and products such Slides, YouTube and Docs.

Firefox: Firefox is the second best browser for Windows and Android devices.

Safari: Best for accessing Canvas through an Apple iOS device (Mac, iPhone, iPad).

Internet Explorer: IE is not recommended for most sites, but some websites only work with Internet explorer.

Canvas App

The mobile app for Apple and Android is inconsistent so make sure it's working. It is useful to check assignments and to have in your hand, but probably not the best way to submit discussions or assignments.
